In memory of Janis Cash, a beloved Catholic elementary school teacher and basketball coach, the Books and Hoops Scholarship Fund was established for three St. Rose of Lima Catholic School students. Fundraising for the scholarships was led by Allison Walker along with family and friends of Janis. They raised $9,400! Allison and Janis were friends and taught together.
Awarded in June, the scholarships provide tuition assistance for the 2022-23 school year. Aaliyah C. received a full scholarship for her strong commitment to serving others, work ethic, and leadership qualities. Makai S. and Hamidatu M., both members of the basketball team, received partial scholarships for showing outstanding sportsmanship, humility, perseverance, and teamwork.
