Decades ago, Doris and Jack McHugh put five of their six children through St. Philomena Catholic School. Doris, herself, volunteered in the school library for over 20 years, forming a deep connection with the school.
Fast forward to today, years after St. Philomena merged with St. Cyril Catholic School, that connection has earned a lasting legacy, through the naming and dedication of Doris and Jack McHugh Hall.
“My siblings and I received such a strong, foundational education at St. Philomena,” said John McHugh, son of Doris and Jack. “It was instrumental in influencing the lives we lead today. As a family, we want to ensure that today’s and future Cyril & Philomena students have that same opportunity while also honoring our parents’ foresight and the sacrifices they made for our education.”
The naming and dedication of Doris and Jack McHugh Hall at Ss. Cyril and Philomena is the first of its kind within the Independence Mission School network.
“This is a milestone moment for the McHugh family, Ss. Cyril and Philomena Catholic School and our network as a whole,” said Gianna R. D’Angelo, President and CEO of Independence Mission Schools. “We are deeply grateful to the McHugh family for their inspiring legacy gift. Across the network, we’re looking forward to partnering with our alumni and multi-generation families to create meaningful opportunities that honor their legacies and, ultimately, support our students.”
