Independence Mission Schools (“IMS”) today announced that the nonprofit organization’s president, Bruce Robinson, will step down as President at the end of the school year in June 2023. Moving forward, Bruce will remain a close partner with IMS to work on completing our strategic plan fundraising campaign, Reimagining Our Future: IMS 2026. Bruce’s decision will bring to a close a remarkable five-year term as president of IMS.
“IMS has benefitted greatly from Bruce’s leadership. The IMS staff, board and our many partners feel privileged to have worked with Bruce and are enormously grateful to him for his many contributions. The last five years have been ones of tremendous progress for IMS. Bruce has assembled a first-rate team, and IMS is a much stronger organization today. I am delighted that Bruce will continue with the organization and look forward to
his assistance with our campaign efforts.” says Brian McElwee, IMS Board Chair.
“It has been my great honor and privilege to serve as the leader of IMS for the past five years. When I took this role, I committed to a 5-year term and I am proud of the organization we are today and the impact we’ve had, working with outstanding people, groups, and networks to advance the cause of providing a transformative education for the purpose of changing lives in the city of Philadelphia. IMS represents the collective efforts of a dedicated board of directors, a remarkably talented staff and innovative partners and constituents who have inspired us to think creatively and to create its first five-year strategic plan. I could not be more excited about what’s next for this remarkable organization and look forward to staying involved to help finish our campaign,” says Bruce Robinson, President of IMS.
The board of directors will oversee the process to assess the organization’s needs and choose Bruce’s successor. The Board has engaged Bob Vitalo, Vice-President of Search and Consulting at Carney Sandoe and Associates. Bob has extensive experience working with Catholic schools and with schools in the Delaware Valley. Since its founding in 1977, Carney Sandoe & Associates has supported thousands of client schools through recruiting outstanding professionals and by providing consulting on governance and best practices. In the coming weeks Bob will meet with Directors, staff, school leaders and friends of Independence Mission Schools. All the conversations will take place with our mission firmly in mind:
Independence Mission Schools provides a transformative Catholic education that develops students intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually, and that provides children of all faiths with the opportunity to learn in an academically rigorous environment, growing in a culture of love, and setting them on a path to a promising future.
