Built in 1922, St. Rose of Lima Catholic School has been serving the Overbrook/Carroll Park section of Philadelphia continuously for a century! The school celebrated its 100th anniversary with an open house and reception on November 5. Students, faculty, parents, donors and alumni joined in the celebration, which included food, fun and tours of the school to see how recent renovations have created a state-of-the-art art learning environment.
Highlights of the event were a prayer service led by Reverend Monsignor Wilfred J. Pashley, Pastor of St. Barbara Parish, and a special dedication honoring the memory of John “Jack” Donnelly, whose entire family attended. Jack was a founding board member of Independence Mission Schools and the former owner and CEO of the LF Driscoll construction firm.
St. Barbara parishioners participated in the dedication of the Monsignor Pashley Center for Student Life, the newly renovated, multi-purpose recreational space for students. Msgr. Pashley, an integral part of the St. Rose of Lima school community for many years, has meant so much to so many people. St. Rose of Lima and St. Barbara Parishes merged in 2013, prior to that Msgr. Pashley has been the Pastor at St. Rose of Lima since 1984. We were grateful for this opportunity to collectively show our gratitude to someone who has selflessly given all that he has to everyone with whom he has come in contact.
